His playing was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Ritchie Blackmore two guitar icons who famously used the tremolos on their Stratocasters. This was the second, hair-raising track on the debut Van Halen IВ (1978) record :ДЇloydвЂ™s light bulb moment occurred when he was rehearsing with his band. These techniques dramatically affected the pitch of his guitar, to achieve other-worldly sounds without going out of tune! Although the track was recorded with a vintage 6-screw tremolo fitted to his guitar, Eddie Van Halen initiated the whammy-craze in his epic guitar solo entitled вЂњEruptionвЂќ. The advantage of this design meant that players such as Eddie Van Halen could perform crazy вЂњdivebombвЂќ effects. This prevents the strings from sliding over the nut and going out of tune when using the whammy bar. Using 3 metal plates, these lock down 2 strings each and are also tightened with an allen key. The locking nut, which is used in place of a traditional bone or synthetic nut, has a similar locking design. These let players tune their guitar if the strings sharpen or flatten from extensive tremolo use or temperature changes. The bridge also features вЂfine tunersвЂ™, one for each string. These are then fixed into place via tightening bolts on the back of the bridge, which are adjustable with an allen key. The bridge features locking saddles, which the strings are inserted into. However, the Floyd Rose took itВ one step furtherвЂ¦ДЄ Floyd Rose lets you lock the strings in place at two points on your guitar вЂ“ at the bridge itself, and at the nut. It essentially allows you to raise or lower the pitch of your guitar to achieve a vibrato effect. This familiar design has been featured on Fender Strats since the вЂ™50s, and the vintage screw-in tremolo remains a popular choice today.
